1. Who we are
mixin is an input method for macOS that lets you type Chinese pinyin, English, code and math together. It is made by Jiawei Liu, 3869 Miramar St, Apt 1508, La Jolla, CA 92092, United States ("we", "us"). These terms apply to the mixin software, the website usemixin.com, and mixin Pro subscriptions. By installing or using mixin you agree to them.
2. Who sells mixin Pro
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com Market Limited is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: it sells the subscription to you, takes your payment, charges any applicable sales tax or VAT, issues your receipts, and handles refunds and billing questions. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms (paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms). If those terms and these terms conflict on the purchase itself, Paddle's terms apply to the purchase; these terms govern your use of mixin.
Checkout is not open yet. Until it opens, nothing on this site can be bought.
3. Your licence to use mixin
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use mixin on Macs you own or control, for as long as you comply with these terms. The free tier may be used without a subscription. Pro features may be used while you have an active trial or subscription. We keep all rights not expressly granted.
mixin includes third-party components and data under their own licences (for example the rime-ice pinyin dictionary under GPL-3.0 and wordfreq data under CC BY-SA). Their notices ship with the app. Nothing in these terms limits the rights those licences give you.
4. The free tier stays free
Typing with mixin is free: the free tier is the whole input engine (mixed pinyin, English, code and math, the built-in context model, typo correction, word-by-word picking, segment editing and on-device personal learning), with no time limit. If a trial or subscription ends, mixin falls back to the free tier and keeps working; it never blocks typing.
5. mixin Pro subscriptions
- What Pro includes. On-device model reranking: a small language model running on your Mac re-ranks the sentence candidates. Features shown as "coming soon" (sync of learning data across devices, dictionary and model updates, a Windows version) are not part of what you pay for until they are released; we do not promise a date.
- Prices. US$3 per month or US$24 per year, in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT is added by Paddle where it applies. The price you pay is the one shown at checkout.
- Renewal. Subscriptions are billed in advance by Paddle and renew automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. If we change the price, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
- Cancellation. You can cancel at any time through the link in Paddle's receipt email, at paddle.net, or by writing to us. Pro stays on until the end of the period you have paid for, then mixin returns to the free tier. Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy.
6. Free trial
You can try Pro free for 14 days. No payment card is needed to start a trial, so nothing is charged when it ends: Pro simply turns off unless you subscribe. One trial per person; we may decline a trial that looks like an attempt to get repeated trials.
7. Beta software
mixin is in beta. It may contain bugs, and features may change or be removed while we improve it. Keep your own copies of anything important you type.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to: share, sell or publish licence keys or account access; circumvent or tamper with the licence check; resell or sublicense mixin; use mixin to break the law or to infringe others' rights; or interfere with our website or services. This does not restrict what the open-source licences of included components allow.
9. Your content
What you type is processed on your Mac and is never sent to us. Your learning data and the optional typing log stay on your Mac (see the Privacy Policy). You are responsible for backing them up.
10. No warranty
To the extent the law allows, mixin is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that conversions will always be correct. If you are a consumer, you keep any rights the law of your country gives you that cannot be excluded.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or business. Our total liability for any claim relating to mixin is limited to the amount you paid for mixin Pro in the 12 months before the claim, or US$10 if you paid nothing. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
12. Ending these terms
You can stop using mixin at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your access to Pro if you seriously breach these terms; where we do, we will tell you why when the law requires it.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for material changes, tell subscribers by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can cancel before then.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in its courts.
